Daddy, what is going on?

Friday, June 27th, 2008

So, just in case I didn’t email any of you or you didn’t catch it on Facebook, my daughter was born last week on the 16th. So Sarah Elliot Paust is out and about. She was 8 lbs 9 oz at birth and 20.75 inches long.

Luckily, at this age she has to stay where I put her when I pose her for silly pictures. In this one, Sarah asks, “Why am I dressed like a burrito?”

…GraphJam!

A recent highlight featured a Princess Bride reference that I always find amusing. :)

So, yeah, go get y’all’s GraphJam on! :D

Also worth including: I’m not the only one who misses Andre the Giant, am I? Just curious…

One nice thing about the East Coast

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Yesterday was the first hot day of the year here in Baltimore, and it wasn’t actually particularly hot or humid, just a quick taste of what summer will eventually be like.

There was one really nice thing though, the smell of the air as the sun was going down. On the East Coast, I notice sort of a characteristic smell, it’s a mix of humidity, old leaves, growing trees, assorted flowering plants and it all comes together to smell like goodness. It’s the same reaction that I have to baking cookies or fresh bread.

Very different from the smell in the woods out in Alaska which is more of just “pine.”

Whoa, Manny!

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

No kidding, y’all: Manny Ramirez, often the sloppiest, goofiest, not-known-for-his-defense-est, yet hard-hitting-est guy in baseball made an absolutely astoundingly funny and awesome play in a recent game. I’d rate its memorable goofiness right up there with Big Papi hugging the Yuniesky Betancourt to get himself out in a Sox-Mariners game last May.

Anyways, you can see Manny’s play for yourself, just go and check it out here.
(Mac users beware: my plugins are weird or something so the only sound I get is loud static…)

Anyways, it’s a great play that also features Manny being Manny. One big love-hate fest all at once. Gotta love it! :D

Voting

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

So…I voted today for Oklahoma’s presidential primary. It was so strange, though, because I was just sitting at my desk in Wilder. It felt so unofficial and unceremonial. I don’t know…I guess I’m just one of those people that likes getting the “I voted” sticker and talking to little old ladies that volunteer at the polling place. Maybe I’ll feel more official once I have my ballot notarized.

Another thing I thought was weird was that my vote had to be cast in pencil. In light of the past elections and their vote counting problems, I’m not sure that I’m totally comfortable with that. Who says someone couldn’t just erase my vote. hmmm…I guess I’ll just have to have faith in the good ol’ people at the Cleveland County Election Board.

Does anybody else think this is usual for absentee voting? I’m not really that worried, but I just thought it was very strange.

Casinos

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

So whatever tricks they use to keep people in casinos and hide the exits work really well on me.

Its so bad that a security guard had to help me get out of the Venetian the other night. Of course I wasn’t in the casino anymore at that point, I had followed exit signs and somehow ended up in a back corner of their convention are.
