Daddy, what is going on?

Posted by Nathaniel.

So, just in case I didn’t email any of you or you didn’t catch it on Facebook, my daughter was born last week on the 16th. So Sarah Elliot Paust is out and about. She was 8 lbs 9 oz at birth and 20.75 inches long.

Luckily, at this age she has to stay where I put her when I pose her for silly pictures. In this one, Sarah asks, “Why am I dressed like a burrito?”

We had our second pediatrician visit this morning too, the first one was on Monday. In between the two visits, she gained 7 ounces. Everyone was impressed.

    Wow! Congratulations.

    73 oz to 80 oz: over a 9% increase in mass–most impressive.

Babies lose weight after they’re born for the first few days, so she started out on Monday at 7 lbs 13 oz and hit 8 lbs 4 oz on Friday. That’s only 5%.

However, she got weighed again today at 8 lbs 14 oz (although wearing a onesie, so the real weight is maybe 8 lbs 10 or 11 oz). That’s a good 1-1.5 oz/day or ~1% per day. I’d have to bulk up by 2 lbs a day to get the same sort of increase. That’s a lot of milkshakes.
