The war is over, they won
Posted by Ryan.
With my moving down to Boston, I feel it is no longer reasonable that I continue my fight against modernization by refusing to get a cell phone. I won’t go into the many reasons why I dislike them, sufficed to say I think they herald the end of civilization, but now I find myself weighing the prospect of having 2 land line phone bills vs. 1 shared cell phone plan.
So, since this is my first time I’d like to request input from all of you as to what I should look for in a cell phone plan and in a cell phone from said plan. Neither Kathy nor I talk on the phone that much and we’ll primarily be calling either each other or family back in New Mexico.
What says the council in this my hour need?

I’m been a verizon customer for… 5 years and it’s generally been a good service. I would say find out what service your friends and family have b/c you often get free “in calling” with people who have the same provider.

I use Working Assets, which uses the Sprint network, and have no complaints. Plus, WA is all hippie and good and you can feel good about giving some $$ every month to them, instead of giving it to AT&T or Verizon who will sell you out to the government and then beg the GOP to pass retroactive immunity laws to cover their butt.
That said, dude, wait a month and get one of the new/cheap iPhones! Clearly.

I’m getting back on the blog a little bit late, but if you’re not currently tied to one provider, I’d go with AT&T solely to get an iPhone.
If you’re not that far into the Kool Aid, you should wait a bit and talk to people using cell phones near where you’re going to be spending most of your time. Competition means that most cell service offers basically the same thing for the same amount of money. AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/Boost Mobile will all give you basically the same number of minutes per dollar. However, their coverage isn’t uniform and it might turn out that one of them works better for you than the others. At my house, AT&T works much better than Verizon.
I still vote for the iPhone.
