A rant about dark matter

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

I don’t know if any of you saw the press release earlier this week, but HST made a direct-ish measurement of dark matter. “Direct-ish” because they looked at a galaxy cluster and measured how light from background objects was distorted by the cluster’s gravity. In the end, the mass distribution required for the gravitational lensing formed a big ring far from where the luminous matter in the cluster was actually located.

My personal take on things follows after the jump.

Still some hope for geeks

Looking through the job adverts in Physics Today, I came across this beauty:

Even scientists do it. After meeting in Science Connection. All science/nature-philes welcome. www.sciconnect.com

seriously, good times. they even have photos to browse, the demographics are interesting.

Honestly, though, I don’t know why you’d bother with this, since in the end, chicks dig the long ball.
