Unhappy Anniversary

For those who care, I recommend Dan Wetzel’s piece for “sports column that made me say ‘hell yeah’ more than once” of the new year. It’s a good read and has a useful perspective, bitter yet still passionate about the NHL.
Bettman is set to begin his 15th year as commissioner Thursday, and like most hockey fans I feel the need to mark the occasion by popping a bottle of champagne, chugging the entire thing in an effort to drown my misery and then smashing the empty bottle over my temple to black out the memories.

Um. Ow. Pain.
Moving the PIttsburgh Penguins! NOOOO! To f*cking Kansas City?? WTF? That better not go through. Not that I’m a Penguins fan (though they used to be my “playoff team”), but the Pennsylvania sports scene just wouldn’t be the same. You can’t have the Flyers without the Penguins, nor the Eagles without the Steelers, nor the Phillies without the Pirates. The intrastate rivalry is necessary to the enjoyment of the game. Then again, for all I know, the Flyers hardly play the Penguins anymore. I haven’t watched the NHL since the lockout, cuz with the salary cap, the Flyers let go all of the players I recognized.
And we Flyers fans have suffered a double whammy with Bettman in office, because Bobby Clarke, as GM, did to the Flyers what Bettman has done to the NHL. Luckily, the management wised up and finally let Clarkie go (fired? “resigned”? I don’t actually know. I was following Dartmouth hockey. *sigh* I miss college hockey.), so maybe the Flyers can start pulling out of the long, long nosedive they’ve been in.
What is this “Versus” channel that carried the All-Star Game? We don’t even get it. Is it widespread? And I’m still pissed about them changing the All-Star Game from the wonderful “Eastern vs. Western Conference” format to the vaguely offensive “North America vs. the World” bullshit.
And lastly: Glowing. Puck. RRAAAWWWRRRRR! I have boycotted Fox Sports ever since.

d00d!
Glowing puck was so awesome!
You may be right on the money about the rest of your points (I’m not knowledgeable enough to say for certain, but I’m happy to give you the benefit of the doubt), but glowing puck was tight.
Glowing puck for president in 2008!
