Know Your Great Western Films, issue #57.5
Tuesday, January 9th, 2007No, not Western in the multi-culti sense, but “Western” as in cowboys, guns, lawmen, horses, etc.
Anyways, I’m sitting here working on stuff with High Noon playing on the TV over there across the room. (Hooray Netflix!) If y’all ain’t seen this one, you really should: Gary Cooper as marshall with a young Lloyd Bridges as his deputy in one of the archetypical westerns, with folks like Grace Kelly, Lee Van Cleef, and Lon Chaney, Jr., among others, rounding out the ensemble.
But now I’m ramblin’ again… My point is that, in addition to being a spectacular example of the genre, the music is fantastic on it’s own. Both the instrumental score and the title ballad (as fine an example of cowboy music as there ever was), which is sung by none other than the one and only Tex Ritter! Awesome…
Reckon they really don’t make ‘em like they used to, especially when it comes to a western movie. Although, if you think you’d be interested in some more recently-filmed westerns that I found worthwhile, I’d be happy to provide some recommendations… ![]()
