I hate having to even give them the attention…

…but the latest journalistic abuse of the hyper-reactionary Dartmouth Review is several steps over the line, I don’t care whose rule book you’re using.

For those not aware, this seems to have been the most direct reason for today’s protest rally on the Green, but many of the instances and issues behind this latest development have been churning in the undercurrents of campus discourse for a while now. By virtue of my position as a GA, I’m privy to a bit more of the behind-the-scenes info, and I’m much more keenly aware of the impact this stuff has on the student community than the rest of y’all might be. The ripples are getting large enough that I’m seriously considering putting together some kind of programming to address such concerns within our cluster, in addition to all the larger campus-wide stuff that’s happening.

Anyways, I guess my point is this: read the D for all the normal reasons you’d read a college paper, read the Free Press for some additional perspective, and use the Review to line your birdcage, to housebreak your dog, as compost material, or whatever - just don’t read the fool thing…

My boy “Bubb Rubb”

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

If you have never experienced the profound wisdom of “Bubb Rubb” and “Lil Sis” you should watch this video.  I forgot what profound wisdom they imparted to the world in this news clip.  Such memorable lines as “They just fo’ decoration” and “you s’posed to be up cookin’ breakfast fo’ someone, its like an alarm clock”.  I hope you enjoy as much as I do…

Mac Virus

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Okay, so not really a virus, but it’s still an impressive (disturbing) accomplishment - peeps over at F-Secure have reported on a piece of adware for Mac OSX.  More interestingly, it doesn’t require admin privileges to “nestle” (their word) itself on the computers, according to F-Secure.  No need to panic; the program is a proof-of-concept sent to F-Secure and it is not out targeting users on the Internet.  That said, the days of ignorant bliss may be numbered.

The Mighty Christian Coalition

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Here’s a great little news story. The President-elect of the Christian Coalition had decided to leave the group rather than become president. The reason? He wanted to focus on “Christian” issues like helping the poor and maintaining the environment. This apparently is a wider cause than the board of directors was willing to accept since they want the Christian Coalition to be solely about abortion and gay marriage. It’s an interesting [short] read.

Woodbox?

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Does anyone actually listen to music via woodbox anymore?

I have a choice of either turning it off or doing a fairly major software update and I’d like to know if anyone cares.
