I hate Joe Morgan. Not just because he criticizes a book that he amits he’s never read (Moneyball), or because he claims that it was written by Billy Beane (which it wasn’t), but because he has to be one of the most arrogant sports commentators ever. During last night’s Sox-Yanks game he mentioned how Papelbon was succeeding because he was pitching the Yankee hitters inside and jamming them. But when presented with a replay that showed the pitch locations were actually out over the plate, he said that the video was wrong, since it obviously couldn’t be his infallible eyes. I mean, he played baseball, and no crazy computer pitch analyzer can tell him where a pitch was! I wonder what it’s like when he gets pulled over by the police…
Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Joe: No
Cop: You were going 120 in a 30
Joe: No I wasn’t, I was only going 20. I’ve driven a car before and I know when my speedometer’s wrong!
Cop: Step out of the car, please..
On another note, the Yankees are a better team than the Sox. There, I said it. They have better pitching and a much better lineup, and probably stand a very good chance of going all the way this year. It’s been a great ride, but I think you can pretty much stick a fork in the Sox this year.
