Oh, YUCK!

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

I just pulled a tick off my neck.  I didn’t know what it was, thought it was just something stuck in my hair, so I didn’t remove it the “proper” way.  Can’t tell what kind it was.  I think it was just a dog tick, being rather large, but I’m not sure.  I squished the hell out of it with a tissue when I realized what it was.  I don’t think he had time to get any blood out of me, but mom says i do have a small red spot on my neck.  Have to watch it for a rash, but I suspect it wasn’t a deer tick.  They’re supposed to be the size of a poppy seed, and i think this was a bit bigger.  I also think the head was still on it.  Don’t think he got any blood, because it didn’t feel that big when i grabbed it.  Though it’s possible i squeezed the blood back into me before pulling him off :(  Just put Mira’s flea/tick stuff on her.  YUCK.

JHU Security Guards Are Not Good Americans

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

It’s not their fault, but I noticed something very interesting. The American flag on the security guards’ uniforms is backwards.

I just looked it up to make sure I’m not going crazy, but the union (the part with the stars) should always be in the top left of the flag when you look at it.

Why no, I’m not an ASCII artist. But this is the way it should be. The guards’ uniforms all have the stars in the other top corner. It’s probably some Chinese plot to take over the US. But at a high profile place like Johns Hopkins, you’d expect them to get this right. And especially since we’re close to DC and because of the 9-11! Get the terrorists in Iraq!

As a side note to this rambling post, if you hang the flag vertically, the union stays in the same corner. It requires not just a rotation, but a rotation and a mirroring.
