Three Things, redux

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

in honor of jenn’s inagural post, and as a fellow MCB’er, three topics i fell i have some authority on which to post:
1. Immunology
2. Food
3. Cheap Booze

Be prepared for random trivia, poor spelling, complete randomness, rants on the red sox, and bad puns.

carry on.

WAR!!!

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

I can understand why newspapers would want to go with that headline.

This is a rallying cry for all the physicists and astronomers reading this. Jenn has been a blog member for a whole, oh, 18 hours now and has two posts. Since she’s a biologist, we have to assume exponential growth (especially since there was no action for 12 hours and then two posts in the following 6). At this rate, we’ll be washed out in biology-speak.

There’s only one thing to do, post more stuff. Only you can put more posts on the blog and fight the biology invasion.

If you don’t, I’ll be forced to change the header on the blog… and that’s just sad.

my brush with fame…

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

As a lowly graduate student and scientist I often wonder if anyone out there in the “real” world really gives two-cents about goes on in lab from day-to-day, or if anyone really knows just how exciting pushing the frontiers of knowledge millimeter by millimeter can be. i thought it was pretty awesome that the New York Times picked up this little tid-bit from Howard Chang at Stanford, whom I had the absolute pleasure of working with on my own project here at Dartmouth just last week.

I’m posting this mostly because knowing someone else who’s science has made it to the general public spotlight is probably as close as i will ever come to scientific fame

….and i because study fibroblasts and this work is pretty astonishing stuff

…and i’m huge dork.

(1) Not owning a Cummings 3500 Turbo Diesel.
(2) Thinking it’s a good idea to listen to my George Strait playlist. seriously, what was I thinking?
(3) Losing the original video of the first moon walk. Oops.

Life-savers indeed

Not to trivialize the whole issue, but this piece of news is kinda funny - an Israeli woman’s life was saved by her breast implants, stopping shrapnel an inch or two away from her heart.

(and just because it must be said: Hooray Boobs! Hooray Beer!)

australia, biology and bad hair

G’day,
You may very well be asking yourself what these three things have in common. The answer is of course, these are the only topics about which I believe I can speak about with certain authority, and hence will be bringing forward in this here blogging forum. The question then remains can all three be adressed at once? I believe undoubtedly so.

Thank you physics for granting me this privilage of procrastination when I am so desparately in need of distraction…. qualifier? what the *%#$ is that?
