Baseball, Steroids, McGwire, oh my!

With Bruce Sutter’s enshrinement in the HOF, we can look ahead to the upcoming election in December. Interesting any year, this year’s ballot will be under an especially large microscope because the first of Juice-boys will be up for election: Mark McGwire. While not quite as damagingly linked to steroids as Palmiero or Canseco of Bonds, his reputation because of HGH and Andro leaves his reputation still pretty well tarnished.

Speaking of Bonds - for a while I’ve held out hope that he’d come out clean, mostly because I assumed he’d break Hank’s record and I wanted that to be a clean one. Now that it looks like he may well go to jail, and his bat has cooled off as his back gets work, he may well not break it, which is great.

Finally, and I know at least Jeremy will have a comment on this one, it’s worth noting the induction of the first full-on, modern-style closer. Where do you draw the line? How many saves does one need - what’s the number analagous to 300 wins of 500 homers?

P.S.  gotta love closers’ facial hair - from Rollie Fingers’ handlebar to Sutter’s neckbeard, good times.
