That’s pretty slick. I don’t quite understand why it turned white in a dark bucket, unless it was pissed off and was trying to say “here I am, get me out of here”. ideas?

    P.S. Hooray Shiner!

Dude! Being in a dark bucket is like being in a cave.

In the absence of light, coloring is more or less moot. Thus, the default position of the chameleon apparatus in the snake takes over, and a complete lack of pigmentation is the result.

I’m sure I’m getting some of this wrong, and I’m also sure that Miss K could set me straight with her awesome powers of biology, but I think the snake turning white in the dark is a lot like the case of the cave fish.

I interpreted “dark bucket” as dark-colored bucket - I wasn’t thinking of it being covered. so yeah, that makes sense. I do wonder how long it takes an animal/population to acquire albino-ish characteristics when they move into dark places, I’ll try to remember to ask.
