End of an Era

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

While it could be argued that it’s a step forward, replacing some old white guy with a more hip, female newscaster, seems to me that kicking Dan Rather to the curb before his contract even expires is a little lacking in the class dept. It’s all old news, but still he didn’t seem too pleased.[video]

Tuesday Oddball Story Roundup

Fluffle-Kerfuffle! Apparently, there are two competing camps down in Mass.: those who think the Fluffernutter should be the official Commonwealth sandwich, and other who demand that it be banned from the school cafeteria menus.

Also of note: heroic dogs are cool. I really like the fact that she licks her owner’s nose to diagnose his blood sugar.

Finally, the Sox are currently up 6-0 in the top of the third, and the Nationals starting pitcher only went 1.2 innings deep! :)

Hooray Seeds! Hooray Norway!

Yep, that’s right: our wonderfully crazy Scandinavian friends have now become the stewards of the world’s agricultural diversity, courtesy of this seed-vault they’ve built into the permafrost on some remote Arctic island they own.

I love the fact that they’ve done this, but I really hope the world never has to fall back on this contingency plan. Still: Hooray Norway! Hooray Permafrost! :)
