Rule # 2387

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Inspired by some of the speakers this morning, I’ve come up with a new one (or maybe a corrolary to rule #88?) which states:

“Laser pointers are like spandex - they’re a privilege, not a right.” Honestly, have some self-control, people!

“‘Bout that time, eh?”

“Right-o. Let’s get on with it, then.”

“Cheers. Put the backs into it, lads. We’ll have this piano up the mountain in no time.”

:)

“I crush you. I crush your head.”

For those who remember with great fondness the classic Kids in the Hall sketch about this, I present you the following commercial, which uses this sort of humor to advertise something vaguely fitness related.

Obviously, the ad strategy didn’t work well on me, but it sure was funny.

“I’m crushing your head!! I’m crushing your head! I’m crushing your head!! That’s what I’m doing! Flathead! Like putty, in my hands! These business boys!”

Classic! :)

DAMOP, part II

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Okay, so obviously I have internet since I was able to post Tuesday’s recap. However, the best part of Tuesday went un-posted: walking back to the dorms from the conference center, Andy and I saw big lightstands that immediately registered in my brain as “baseball stadium”. Sure enough, as we got closer, we heard music and crowd noise, so we detoured that way, and ended up getting to watch (for free, since it was already in the 5th inning) the rest of the UT-Belmont University game. Nice relaxing finish to a hectic day, except that it was pretty chilly towards the end.

I don’t even have the energy to post all of Wednesday’s report, but some quick thoughts:
(1) Andy says my presentation went well, but honestly I don’t remember that much - just a big blur of meeting people and saying things and hoping it made sense.
(2) I almost got to talk with Eric Cornell, but I blew it and he wandered off in the other direction.
(3) the Downtown Grill and Brewery has a great gimmick going on, where you can for $29.99 buy into the “mug club” - you get your own mug that they keep at the bar, and whenver you come in they give you your mug, and of course with a nice discount. Great loyalty program, seems like something an H-town bar could try.

Thursday:
Tim, I met Daniel Dries, he says hi. Seems like a cool guy, we chatted for a bit about the difficulties inherent to building BEC apparatus from the ground up.

DAMOP, Tuesday ed.

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

[quick note: I don't expect anybody to actually care, but this is what blogs are all about, so here goes.]

Tuesday:
Leave H-town on the 7am Dartmouth Coach, scheduled to get to Logan at 9:25am, but we’re more than an hour late due to weather and traffic. Fortunately our flight was delayed as well (from 11am to 11:30) so we didn’t miss it. Andy and I sat next to some woman who looked to be in her early 40s but had very colorful/young fashion - orange top, short black miniskirt with bright red leggings underneath. she made it work, but it was still somewhat… interesting? startling?
