Guilty Pleasures…

Thursday, April 27th, 2006  hungry

I think it’s time we had another survey/poll to waste our time even more completely. To that end, I’ll ask all y’all blog-land folk to respond in the comments with your list of (no more than) five songs you love that you consider to be guilty pleasures, whether it’s because other folks tend to hate them, you feel silly for liking them, or whatever. The order you list them in doesn’t have to reflect anything, but it can if you want.

I’ll get us started by listing mine after the jump; and I’ll look forward to the other responses.

Good Science Fair Project

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006  impressed

Talk about your your winning science fair project ideas. Another version appears here.

There’s a little room for improvement, though: the real control should have been unheated purified water from the same batch, in addition to the boiled vs. microwaved. I’m also a little concerned about the notion “that the structure or energy of the water may be compromised by microwave”.

Hard-nosed scieence criticism aside, though, this experiment was a darned good one for a young person to devise and carry out, with some readily apparent results. Too bad this sort of scientific thinking isn’t more strongly encouraged earlier in a child’s school career.

Two superficials don’t make a right

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

But still, funny in a mean way nonetheless:
(a) Miss Lohan is much hotter than Mr. Paust… or at least, when they both wear their little mouse/bunny ear hats.

(b) damn that must have been a big placenta.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about then good for you, because that means you haven’t ruined your lunch in the last few days. (that said, I do confess I’m kinda looking forward to MI:III.)

The Bushometer just rolled … under?

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

For those of you who didn’t see “The Colbert Report” tonight, we are now down to only 999 days of the Bush Administration.

And let me just add, “Damn, you go, Arlen Specter!” Apparently he’s for looking into this whole gas price thing and assessing a “windfall tax” to the gas companies.

Now we just need to get rid of the shithead that we also have in the Senate.

Sport observations

(1) Arsenal’s “win” over Villarreal in the Champions’ League semifinals (1-0 on aggregate) wasn’t pretty, but they owe it all to their keeper, who saved a penalty shot in the 88th minute (i.e. with two minutes left). Given the chances Villarreal had, I’m certain they would have prevailed in extra time - just like the Steelers winning in January, the best team doesn’t always win.

(2) Curt Schilling is a media/attention whore and his grandstanding gets on my nerves, but fundamentally he play the game the way it should be played and really cares. He certainly didn’t have his best stuff in tonight’s game, and gave up a couple big hits on weak pitches, but he still managed to keep the Sox in the game long enough for Manny and Ortiz to win the game. His “f***!” could be lipread from a mile away when he saw Tito coming to take him out (after 130+ pitches), and it was great. Get paid $10mil a year and you’re still pissed when you don’t get to finish the job, that’s cool.

(3) Gratuitous Jonathan Papelbon photo, just for fun.
