Beer Bellies for all!

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

They say that necessity is the mother of invention? Well, a strap-on beer belly is pretty darn clever, and while it probably only works for a certain demographic (30+ males?) it’s a great way to flout the public consumption laws, eighty ounces at a time. Billed by Reno, Nevada-based Underdevelopment, Inc., as a “removable spare tire that serves a stealth beverage” the Beer Belly is basically a sling with an polyurethane bladder and hose that goes under your shirt… (Now I have figured out my birthday present for Nick!)

Imagine my surprise…

So, for the last week or so, I’ve been hearing this weird clanging noise in the chimney at the house in Lyme. My bedroom upstairs has the window that’s closest to where the chimney exits the roof, and the corner by my nightstand is built out around where the chimney runs up through the house, so the noise has awakened me before my alarm sounds each morning.

EDITED: Tim says it’s too long for the front page! See more after the jump…

Blog use comment

Friday, April 28th, 2006

I just wanted to congratulate (some sections of) the blog community for a very productive last couple days - this is how it’s meant to be, people! Fun posts, lots of comments, pretty ladies, and quality(?) tunes. :)

that said, we’re still missing out on a significant subsection in terms of participation - Becky, still waiting for the American Idol update! and all the rest of you with “homework”, c’mon that’s not an excuse. But anyway, good stuff. oh and congrats to Tim on passing the 200-post level.

Dreadnought

Somehow I think that if this were in America, he’d get in trouble for judicial activism? but either way, embedding a secret code in a court ruling about a book on secret codes is kinda funny. And I like the Admiral Fisher reference.

“The message reveals a significant but now overlooked event that occurred virtually 100 years to the day of the start of the trial,” said High Court Justice Peter Smith.

Do what now?

Or, in slightly less vernacular and more vulgar parlance, WTF?

Computer issues

Friday, April 28th, 2006  annoyed

So, my mac has decided that I’m suddenly asking too much of it to run itunes, mail, ichat, safari, and firefox at the same time. I used to have like a thousand things open at once, and it was fine. But now itunes drops out every 10 seconds or so, opening a web page gets me a damn little swirling colors disk cursor half the time, and it’s REALLY PISSING ME OFF! oh, and most of the time, when it does this, the processor is nowhere near 100%. the past few hours, it’s mostly been down under 25% !! Anybody have any ideas what’s wrong? I think the odd grinding noises it makes when i move it are perhaps related to the fan, because i didn’t originally notice any problems (other than when i panicked when it first happened and turned the thing off, and it wouldn’t reboot for a few days) associated with the grinding. it is becoming more frequent, though. as are the freezing spats. i first noticed it freezing though when i was running “bittorrent”, but i’m not running it anymore. any thoughts would be much appreciated.

it’s official: Keira Knightley is the sexiest woman in the world.

Well, so says FHM in an all-Britain poll, so there might be a little bit of a bias. but still, how can you say no?
