housing question

so, $800 a month, utilities not included, unfurnished, is a bit too much to be paying on our stipend, isn’t it, no matter how nice the apartment?

Yes, it is. And I have no clue what a Dartmouth stipend is.
If it makes you feel better, my place offered me $856/month if I wanted to continue my residence.

Theoretically, you’re supposed to not spend more than 1/3 of your paycheck on rent (so for us that’s about $3.48)… so yes, $800 which is really more like $1000+ is too much. If you didn’t have dog expenses and were willing to live on Special K and Ramen (which is a surprisingly healthy diet if you get the non-MSG kind, and low on caloried), it wouldn’t be unreasonable.
When I lived in Santa Cruz, my 1br apartment was $875/mo, unfurnished, no utils, and that was 1997. but then, Hanover ain’t no SC.

it’s a 2br, so it’s a bit more than i need. but i’m just getting sick of the “pets allowed, but no dogs” bullshit. *sigh* i just want to move already.

good luck Holly! I’m sure you’ll find something. At least you still have a while.

Yeah … I’m living in a shit hole old house (college student style) next year paying like $300/mo + utilities so that I’m not as poor. Should be nice … I think ….

i found a place in lebanon for $725 plus electric, cable, and internet. waiting to hear if the dog’s ok.
so the $300/mo+utilities old house, is that a space to yourself, or sharing with some other people?
