Olympic Commentary…

Thursday, February 16th, 2006  happy

Since I mostly dig on hockey, luge-ing (and variations thereof, like tobaggann-ing, or however you spell it), and, of course, the near-frictionless-physics-meets-chess wonder that is curling, I tend to rely on fun commentary to get me through the mind-numbing parts of the Winter Olympics. *ahem* figure skating *ahem*

Anyways, Slate has several good reads, and I would highly recommend their daily dialogue on “How to Watch the Winter Olympics”.

Also, there’s this gem of a column that just about sums it up for me. Best line, in a field of many strong contenders: “We are the only society ever that could have produced Little Richard.”

Amen.

a new theory

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

So, the most recent conspiracy theory is that VP Cheney shot his buddy specifically to make people forget about the whole CIA leak case. In my mind, that’s a little bit like hitting your toe with a hammer to make yourself forget that a snake bit your arm, but whatever.

Then again, he needs pretty much whatever help he can get since the most recent defense that I’ve heard for “Scooter” Libby was “The VP told me to do it, and he said that he has the right to declassify things.” Of course, that a) admits guilt and b) no, actually he doesn’t have that right.
