State of Bullshit in the US

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Ok, there are some interesting things going on the country that, as a dork, I must bring to your collective attention.

First, is the shit that Bell South is trying to pull. To me this is just amazing. Charge everyone twice for your services, then shovel on the shit and hope they don’t see what you’re doing.

Next is the crap that Bush’s people are trying to do. I want my porn habits kept private, dammit. No one needs to see how much of a perv I really am. And no, that wasn’t my girrafe porn

RIP Wilson Pickett

Thursday, January 19th, 2006  thoughtful

Add another of the old school R&B and Soul greats to our list of the recently departed. It seems like he may have gone quickly, which can often be something of a blessing, and it sounds like his family is holding up well, given the sudden loss.

It probably goes without saying, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that “Wicked” Wilson Pickett will also be dearly missed by us fans.

One of these days, we’re gonna wake up to find that all of these pioneers have passed away, but at least we seem to be aware of much of their far-reaching impact on the shape of popular music, as evidenced by the awards, honors, and tributes other younger artists give them.

Liftoff!!

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

So New Horizons and it’s Atlas V finally went up today… and it was about time. After being delayed Tuesday due to high winds and yesterday due to a power problem at JHU APL (mission ops), it was again a little rough getting going today. They delayed from the original launch time of 1:08 pm to 2:00 pm due to cloud cover below 6,000 feet (tracking/visibility I hear).

I changed my flight today so that I could stay long enough to catch the launch window as the weather and all gave an 80% chance of launch where as tomorrow was said to be 40% due to incoming weather. While the pictures you’ll find online are better, I did take a couple and it sure was nice to see. Good times.

From Kennedy Space Center (actually Orlando International Airport now … ) end transmission.

Do Me a Favor?

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

I asked Becky to ask around, but, well, I’m impatient :) Could someone do me a huge favor and pick Mira up from the boarding place in Lebanon before 7pm on Monday? I’d dearly like to have her back monday night, but i likely won’t get back until 8, 7:30 at the earliest, and the boarding place closes at 7pm. I’ll make sure they’re clear that I’ll be dealing with the bill on Tuesday. Or they can mail it to me if they like.
