Not feeling very eloquent right now, so for now I’ll just honor the life of a courageous woman with a moment of silence and a tip of the cap.

… if you wear jeans, you’re having too good a time.

In other news, wearing oxfords automatically puts a stick up your ass.

Hate-or-ade: drink up!

Monday, January 30th, 2006

despite outward appearances, I’m actually a pretty nice guy, and believe in all sorts of hippy/quaker shit like “love is all you need” and “the death penalty is indefensible” and stuff, but I still get a kick out of good old-fashioned meanness.

thus I present a challenge to you, blog-people… the hate-list. As Huey says, Osama is way too easy: the challenge is to come up with un-obvious people to hate, and provide solid justification.

Mira’s at daycare today. It’s awfully lonely in here without her.

Hockey Song

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

This has been bothering me for years. Tonight at the hockey game as the players were coming out for the third period, the PA had this song which starts with a bunch of “la laaa la de da” lines. And then someone who sounds like Sting sings what I think are the words “life is right” (could also be “life is life” or something like that). I’ve Googled these lyrics along with some other snippets I remember with no luck. They used to play this song at SLU hockey games when I was in college, and ever since then I’ve been trying to figure out the song’s title and who sings it. If you know, please help me out!

Pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical

Saturday, January 28th, 2006  impressed

The new pope has turned in a bit of a surprise with his first encyclical.

I ain’t Catholic by any means, so I reckon my interest in what the pope has to say is rooted in the fact that he is a spiritual leader for so many people. At any rate, I’m going to defer to my good buddy Dustin for comments on this one, since I wholeheartedly agree with his take on the pope’s message. Y’all should check out Dustin’s blog post about it.
