It’s good to know…

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

that i can push my car by myself. On level ground (i.e. the garage), but nonetheless, i could move it. why, you might ask? i was putting oil in before leaving, and, naturally, when i went to put the oil cap back on, i dropped it down through the car. let us take a moment to thank the engineers that the car has no bottom under the hood. let us take another moment to be glad that i asked what every little knob and button did on my car when i got it, since that’s how i know how to slip the car into neutral without turning it on. i grabbed hold of the car from behind the driver’s side door, with the door open, (so that i could halt any rolling if i pushed too far) and was able to move it back about a meter to retrieve the cap. yea! now i just have to conquer putting air in the tires (free air at the co-op!).

More comedy

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, but forgot. good times. :)

Apparently they got huge #s of complaints but also a huge boost in sales (they had two other controversial ones, one where marching band kids are attacked by wolves and another where they tattoo stuff on babies’ heads). I’m not saying I approve, but this one is funny.

edit: here’s the gerbil one (scroll down) and others.

Time-wasting, hip-style

For those of you who find yourselves wandering about aimlessly, struggling to deal without the structure life of the graduate student, here you go.

My record is 1.1 million, but I play somewhat conservatively. I had forgotten about this site and wasn’t sure if it was still up - a buddy of mine spent many a night/class playing this when we were in Aberdeen. Anyway, kinda mindless, but also fun and easier to set up than Risk.

Hello? anybody?

If anybody’s still left, I (well, Karlina really, I helped) made cookies for Tea.

One heck of a late fee

Apparently the European Commission is threatening to fine Microsoft up to €2 million (£1.36m; $2.4m) per day until it improves more access to its systems, and Microsoft was also ordered “to disclose complete and accurate interface documentation which would allow non-Microsoft work group servers to achieve full interoperability with Windows PCs and servers”.

the interesting bit is that if Microsoft fails to provide the necessary information by 25 January, the daily fines would be backdated to 15 December 2005.
