Bitches

… just figured it needed saying. I belive that was my first post, and just might become a randomly occuring one when I have nothing nice/ and/or better to say. However, I did have a single revelation this evening. While playing poker with some engineers and taking money from the people that suck this evening, we happened to be watching Beavis and Butthead (not sure why, but it happened). Anyways, the revelation was that … well, really more my opinion is that Mike Judge is a genius and would have made infinitely more money with a second edition of Beavis and Butthead than he currently does with the shitty almost-mediocre King of the Hill. Not to hate entirely, the first season was fine and relatively humorous, but has anyone actually watched it lately? Can I say terrible? Yes. Yes I can.

Elizabethtown — ARG my basement is flooding!

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

Kirsten and I went to see Elizabethtown this evening and it wasn’t bad. However, I think it would be pretty much the same on video… so I’m going to give it a neutral rating.

The excitement came on the way home. All day down here, I’ve been driving through small amounts of water on the road. No big deal, but enough to make me wish that my tires weren’t almost worn out. Anyway, going over “the mountain” I saw a bunch of ripples in the road and it took driving through them to figure out that they were actually rocks under the 1 inch of flowing water.

Then, the first road to our house was blocked off because of water too deep to drive through. We got around that road by driving through some water that was “only” three inches deep. Then, one block from the house we got stopped by water that would have gone over my wheels. Back up and take some secondary roads and we made it to the house.

Of course, in the driving around, I noticed that the manholes were all turning into little fountains since the storm drains were taking in more water than they could handle. I was just waiting to get home to see the same thing going on in the basement.

Luckily, that wasn’t the case (the house is sort of on the top of a little hill. But water was seeping in the front wall of the basement and pouring in the back.

We’re all enterprising problem solvers though. :) I took the leftover PVC pipe from last week’s plumbing project and made extenders to carry water from the downspouts farther out from the house. (Note to everyone: glad press and seal wrap is great stuff) End result, the water has pretty much stopped coming into the basement and I’m going to sleep.
