So, Canoe Club
Posted by Nathaniel.
doesn’t get a very good rating from me. I think that’s pretty much what I’ve heard from other people.
Slow service, expensive, and not that great of a selection. On the other hand, the food wasn’t too bad. I’m not sure it merited $22 a plate though.
And we had to put up with all the Tuckies.
(note: the last sentence is a joke. there’s nothing inherently wrong with Tuckies.)

Nick, Tim, Holly, and Andrea. I think this brings up a good task for all of you. You need to go out and start dating some Tuckies. Really only one of you needs to succeed to prove that there are actually good Tuckies out there.
I’m just sort of short on examples of good Tuckies at the moment. All of the ones that I’ve run into lately haven’t really been worth their air.

I can’t say that I’ve ever met any Tuckies. Doesn’t Chris run into them playing squash?

ah, as for the canoe club, the only reason to go are the garlic fries.

Ok, there are no good Tuckies.
Second, there are tasty plates besides the fries. There’s that late night grilled cheese thing which is pretty damn good. Their late night stuff is are only reasonably priced items.

I can think of three Tuckies that are real jerks, and maybe 5-8 that are pretty cool. Don’t know any names, except for “Mike” who is living in the upstairs apartment in the house Karlina where Karlina just moved. There definitely are good Tuckies, I think it’s just the few who give them all a bad name.
but yes, I have to agree with Nathaniel’s assignment. go get ‘em.
P.S. have to agree with the Canoe Club assessment - that’s been my opinion all along, but I try to keep my mouth shut in case I’m wrong. Food is decent but not worth the $$$, and the portions are too small.

Small portions, hit-or-miss service, the bothersome portion of the Tuckie population, general snootiness - all strikes against the place in my book.
Still, though, as one of the only joints around with quality live music (from a wide variety of musical styles) every night, I gotta give them a little respect for that.
Believe me, I’m all for snaring a Tuckie MBA so I, too, can be a “kept academic”, but I may need to borrow Kepler and take him for a walk past known Tuckie hotspots quite a few times before any appreciable successes would result.

Canoe club is not stellar or an ideal haven for us nerd types, true, but I havn’t found it to be too bad. The food, granted, is not worth what they charge generally, and the portions are certainly on the lean side. However, it has a number of good virtues that at least keeps me coming back. #1) Good for guests. I especially liked taking my grandmother there because it, while possibly a wee snooty, has that Dartmouth-New England-Ivy League-Outdoors-Country Club feel, which is cool for family still in awe of the fact that their kid goes to an “ivy league school.” #2) Sports on TV. Always have big sporting events on the bar TV and the projection screen. Sunday and Monday night football, big college games, etc etc. #4) Comfy leather couches … if you can snag them. #5) Now this is the REAL reason I go there: $2 PBR draft pints. I mean seriously, laughing at Tuckies at the Canoe Club with a PBR is just too sweet.
