“Stars Fell on Alabama”
Sunday, September 18th, 2005
That song always makes me think of home, and being in Alabama for the weekend definitely does as well. I figured I’d make a quick post-wedding shindig post for the folks out there in blog-land.
Had a blast seeing my good buddy Evan get married today, and at the reception that followed. They went for a full-blown Episcopal worship service at the big cathedral here in Birmingham, but that’s to be expected, since Evan’s only got one more year at seminary before his ordination as an Episcopal priest.
Caught up with several old friends from our hometown who were also in attendance, and my folks are here in town as well, so we’ve had the luxury of an occasion to visit, courtesy of being brought together for Evan and Elizabeth’s big day. Also found out that Evan’s last year of seminary will be in Alexandria, Virginia, so now I’ve got a good excuse to get down to the DC area for a visit sometime in the next year.
Anyways, it’s been a long couple of days (considering I got up before the cows did on Friday morning to prepare for the dreaded exam), so I’m thinking it’s shuffle off to bed time for me. Oh yeah, one more thing: free ethernet, up to an hour of free long distance each day, lots (~70, including HBO) of TV channels, plus a free bag of popcorn in the microwave, two complimentary sodas in the mini-fridge, and free drinks (alcoholic, even!) and snacks from 5:30-7 PM each evening in the ample lobby. Y’all ought to look into Drury Inns if they have them wherever you find yourselves traveling.
