Now that’s long-term investment!

Amid fears the U.S. students are falling behind their international counterparts, IBM is starting a program to provide financial support to employees who want to become math and science teachers. Apparnetly they will have to get approval from their managers to participate. If they make the cut (100 in the first year), the employees can take a leave of absence from the company to teach high school math and science - while still getting full benefits, up to half their salary (depending on length of service), and could get up to $15,000 in tuition reimbursements and stipends while they seek teaching credentials and begin student-teaching.

Of course, they’re hoping that HP and other companies follow suit, but it’s really a pretty good idea.
