Who in the hell thought this was a good idea?

A good experience

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

I’ve used the blog to complain about people who suck at business, so I figure it’s only fair that I praise some people now and then.

Today’s “Wonderful to do business with” award goes to Jim Oliverio at Midwest Dowel. I’ve been working with him to get the handles for my croquet mallets. Anyway, I’ve talked to him on the phone twice to get exactly what I need and he’s gotten me exactly what I asked for. (He has all kinds of cool stuff too… anybody want any teak dowels?)

On my most recent order, he even got everything out the door in time that it’ll show up here on Friday despite the fact that I’m only paying for ground UPS.

No war in Iraq!

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

It’s a nice sentiment isn’t it? The anti-war folks were protesting across from the Hanover Inn when I was driving home. I think it was to support the woman who’s making sure the president knows that the war is a bad idea.

Now, I think the entire war was started as a political exercise and the reasons we went to war were flat out lies from the president. However, we’re in Iraq now and, sadly, we can’t just leave. It would be nice if we could. However, look at Afghanistan. The Soviets invaded, occupied the place for a few years and then fled. The Taliban resulted which is really pretty horrible considering that it was in a place where the greatest natural resource was rocks.

Iraq may not have any WMD, but they definitely have other weapons and they have a way to pay for new bad things if they wanted. So sadly, we’re stuck there until we can fix the place up. It’s a case of “we made the problem, now we have to fix it.”

Fuck the president.

With all the folks getting dogs in the department, maybe you need one of these.

Plus, if you’re not walking your dog enough, it’ll get some exercise this way.

Typically male post…

Apologies to the gals out there, but I’ve been taking a study break and determined that the Red Sox ballgirl is a hottie.

Word on various Sox fan boards is that the young lady’s name is Kelly Barons and that she’s played catcher for the softball team at Regis College in Weston, MA, where she’s going to school.

One more pic, for Michael’s appreciation, at the very least.

Be sure to look for her hanging out in foul territory past the visitor’s dugout at Red Sox home games.

Buying an iBook

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

I don’t know if all y’all have been following this, but Henrico County was the first big school district to buy laptops for all their middle-school students. At the start of the year they decided to switch over to Dell laptops and had to sell off all the older iBooks.

Anyway, if you were down there you could buy one for $50. (The current price for one of those machines on eBay is more like $350.)

Needless to say, it was a madhouse so you should read some of the news stories.

And I want one of those t-shirts!
