“Fixin’ Sh*t with Tim”

Saturday, July 16th, 2005  quixotic

On today’s episode of “Fixin’ Sh*t with Tim”, we began the construction of our acoustic enclosure for the helium-3 fridge cooling unit. We featured the use of the jigsaw, the handsaw, the power drill (both cordless and not), and the caulking gun borrowed from the Science Division Apparatus Shop. (Thanks, Rich and Fred!)

Special thanks for this episode go out to Madhu and Zhongqing for some helping hands during a critical assembly step. Also, many special thanks and the opportunity to host his own episode of “Fixin’ Sh*t with Tim” wherein Tim will do all the heavy lifting and let him take all the glory go out to Michael for his much-appreciated help during acquisition and delivery of materials.

Large projects such as this acoustic enclosure merit a two-parter episode, and we’ll leave our project in the lab tonight so the caulked joints can dry. See you tomorrow morning for the next installment of “Fixin’ Sh*t with Tim”, Wilder Lab’s favorite do-it-your-own-damn-self show, when we’ll finish our enclosure by constructing a hinged lid, lining the box with sound-absorbing foam, and intalling the cooling unit when we’re done.

This program has been brought to you by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Army Research Office, and by “Viewers Like You”
