Happenin’ at the Hop

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005  happy

I don’t know if any of the rest of y’all are interested, but for $5 (with Dartmouth ID), I know I’ll kick myself if I don’t go see Dr. John play on July 12th.

N’awlinz Piano Blues, Y’all

I’ll probably pick up my ticket tomorrow sometime, if not later this afternoon. If any of y’all are interested and want me to grab a ticket for you, just let me know.

In case anyone goes a-lookin’ for my iTunes library to listen to some choice Zydeco like the song currently playing, the new name is “Deep Fried”.

I dunno; seemed like a good name to me, and quite possibly way more descriptive than “Tim’s Music”.

Back to work…

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005  exhausted

Well, I dropped the folks (translation from colloquial Southern: my parents) off at the Manchester airport this morning, after helping them rearrange their flights, since Delta was so wise as to cancel their flight from Atlanta to Mobile later today on account of “anticipated bad weather”. Long story short, their 6:30 AM departure time got bumped up to 5:20 AM. Fortunately, we had already planned on staying down in Manchester last night to visit with some extended family and to facilitate catching the early flight.

Still, though, I’ve been up since 3:30 AM, so I’m definitely feeling it this late in the morning. At least I get to head home early, seein’ as how I got to my office at 6:30 this morning. As a safety precaution, I think I’ll avoid most power tools and very expensive equipment today, if I can help it.

Mmmmm. Meat

Monday, June 27th, 2005

I had buffalo burgers on Sunday.

Here’s the question for the grilling experts out there… how long do you cook your burgers? I did 5 minutes a side and they were a touch overdone. I’m not complaining that much since undercooked ground meat worries me a touch, but a good medium burger wouldn’t be a bad thing either.

Two other things…

1) The good thing about using charcoal briquets is that you can toast marshmallows after you’re done with dinner.
2) I ran out of match-light briquets and didn’t have any real lighter fluid, so previously I’d been using whatever semi-nonfatal industrial solvents I have laying around. Denatured alcohol works really well. The charcoal literally explodes into flame. Real lighter fluid only catches fire. No where near as exciting.

Ah, geekdom

Monday, June 27th, 2005  nerdy

Well, now I feel like an accomplished geek, because last night I was able to convince the ppgplot setup.py to run on my computer. I have the power….of plotting!

Made up facts

Monday, June 27th, 2005

I made up one of these “facts” yesterday and read one today. Guess which is false and which is true.

1) Thirty-four percent of all new public radio listeners are listening to the radio to hear something by David Sedaris.

2) Soft drinks have overtaken white bread as the main source of calories in the U.S. diet.

Get the answer here.

The plague

A couple shots of the ladybugs, and a nice sunrise pic for the hell of it. The sunrise pic is a wee bit blurry, because I had it on the night setting, and I don’t have a fancy tripod like some of us. :)

so, we’ve got a bum shutter and a smoke detector that’s chirping loudly for a new battery. what else can fail today…..

perhaps we need an “edgy” mood, that seems most appropriate here.

(if the images are too obnoxious, i’ll fix it later. have to shower and eat!)
