A short story… I had an appointment over at Dick’s House this afternoon and went without my umbrella. It wasn’t raining, so I didn’t need it.
Midway through the appointment though, I started hearing a sound very much like heavy rain on a copper roof. I got out to a room with windows and it turned out that I was wrong… it was heavy rain on concrete.
I decided to wait for the rain to stop and gave it 10 minutes. As luck would have it though, after 10 minutes it was raining harder than before. Five more minutes and the rain still seemed steady, but less vigorous than before so I took it as my sign to start walking.
The exact quote that I uttered as I walked out into the rain was “This is going to be wet.”
The rain gods must have heard that though, because by the time I got to the street, the rain was done. Becky also happened to be driving by at that instant and offered me a ride. By that point, I was already wet and there was nothing more coming down so I just walked to the department.
The lesson: always carry your umbrella. Even if you think you don’t need it.
