I got some jazz

And I’ll claim it’s in honor of Tim even if that isn’t actually the case.
I also have to admit that it’s much more of Samba/Bossa nova than mainstream American jazz. Then again, I likes what I likes and Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto is what I likes.

Nothing wrong with the West Coast Cool meets Bossa Nova style of stuff that Getz/Gilberto made famous. The fact that I don’t yet have any in my collection is merely the result of not being able to find a decent sampling of their stuff in the used bins I used to frequent (budget considerations and all…).
Anyways, let me know if you want to listen to more jazz with a heavy Latin influence; I can give you recommendations (for example, lots of the Dizzy Gillespie stuff) from my iTunes, or I’d be happy to loan you the CDs.
Also recommended, although I don’t have any of him yet either, would be Arturo Sandoval. His stuff is much hotter than the Getz/Gilberto style, but as the premiere Cuban tumpet player of his generation and the Cuban analog to Dizz, he really shouldn’t be missed by those who enjoy Latin-influenced jazz.

P.S. - I’m guessing it comes as no surprise that I commented on this post, and quickly at that. Hey, I’ve been called things far worse than “predicatable” in my day.

How about we make a trade, I’ll give you the songs off this little album (it’s only 10 tracks) and you can loan me a few CDs.
I have to admit that I’ve always feel a little bit out of the loop for not having at least a small working knowledge of jazz. Maybe it’s time to fix that.
