Constantine

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

There’s room in the movie realm for sort-of-ok action movies and that’s definitely what Constantine was. Good special effects, lots of brooding, the ambience was right. Of course the main character was Keanu Reeves (who is always Bill, or Ted, whichever, no matter which movie he’s in) and I’ve definitely seen better acting out of Rachel Weisz.

It was worth the $5 though.

A few points:

  • “The Little Things That Kill” by Bush was the next song up on my stereo when I got back in the car.
  • The angels showing their wings was a cool effect, I would have used it more if it were my movie to make.
  • The actress playing Gabriel, Tilda Swinton, was kind of hot. I could imagine boating with her on Lake Como in the 1930s. I didn’t realize that she’s 15 years my senior though. You should really check out her imdb bio.
  • Having your lung cancer cured by the devil so that you have a chance to condemn yourself again is pretty cool.
  • The movie was both more obviously religious and less actually religious than The Matrix.
  • I don’t know my Catholic mythology very well.
  • And to celebrate the snow and the fact that Keanu’s lung-cancer cough sounded a lot like mine, I did a couple of nice slides in my car in the parking lot before I headed home.
